The Distilleries I’ve Visited

Thanks for visiting the companion website for the in-progress book, Straight Across America: A Journey Through America’s Straight Bourbon Distilleries. As an avid bourbon drinker, I enjoy trying different bourbons from different parts of the country. Traveling the country has allowed me to grow my bourbon collection beyond 200 bottles. As the size of my collection has increased, it has made it more difficult to find new craft bourbons to add; partially due to narrow distribution, but primarily because it can be difficult to locate the distilleries that produce these products.

To bring attention to the craft distilleries producing straight bourbon, I’ve decided to write a book highlighting each distiller and the straight bourbons they’re producing. To qualify for inclusion in the book, a craft distillery must mash, ferment, distill, age, and bottle a labeled straight bourbon in-house. Each of these straight bourbons will be featured with a full tasting review, performed blind, by a well-known bourbon judge. We desire to prevent any bias from entering reviews; allowing distillers a platform to highlight their offerings in a transparent forum.

The research portion of Straight Across America is complete. I am now in the process of visiting America’s straight bourbon distilleries and speaking with owners, master distillers, and other personnel passionate about creating bourbon. At the same time I’m working on the website to add new features and make it a fuller resource.

Follow along as I blog about my experiences visiting the more than 260 distilleries that will be in the book. You can find a link to my most recent posts in the top left corner of this page.
